Former Virginia Tech guard has made the move to Vanderbilt for the upcoming 2024-25 season, as confirmed by men’s basketball head coach Mark Byington on Tuesday.
Byington expressed excitement about the prolific star joining the team, highlighting his adaptability and versatility on the court. He emphasized that the newly signed star’s capability to excel in various positions and contribute significantly, both defensively and offensively.
During his sophomore year in 2023-24, Collins showcased his skills by starting in 28 out of 34 games for Virginia Tech. He maintained solid statistics, averaging 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in nearly 30 minutes of playtime. Notably, he achieved double-digit scoring in 11 games throughout the season, reaching a career-high of 20 points against Louisville in December.
Collins notably had a strong performance in March, scoring in double figures in five consecutive games while demonstrating proficiency in shooting and assisting. His impressive run included notable games against Notre Dame, Florida State, and Richmond.
Additionally, Collins displayed his playmaking abilities with 18 games of three or more assists during the season, culminating in a career-high seven assists against Clemson in January.
Before his collegiate career, Collins hailed from Clover, South Carolina, where he attended Combine Academy. His achievements in high school, including a state championship and a national ranking, underscored his potential as a top recruit.
Now entering his junior year at Vanderbilt, Collins brings two years of eligibility and a wealth of experience to the team, poised to make significant contributions in the upcoming season.
