Braves sign intriguing arm to bolster bullpen
The Atlanta Braves have made another offseason move, signing veteran reliever Buck Farmer to a minor-league deal. Farmer, a Georgia native and Georgia Tech product, returns to his home state after a standout 2023 season with the Reds.
Farmer, born in Conyers, was initially drafted by the Braves in 2009 but chose to attend Georgia Tech instead. He was later drafted by the Tigers in the fifth round.
In 2023, Farmer posted a career-best 3.04 ERA over 71 innings, despite a concerning 9.7% walk rate. His league-average 23.4% strikeout rate offers promise.
Farmer boasts a 4.03 ERA, 23.5% strikeout rate, and 9.8% walk rate across 386 2/3 MLB innings with Detroit and Cincinnati since his 2018 debut. However, his numbers were skewed by a poor 2021 season.
The Braves have also invited several veteran relievers to spring training as non-roster invitees. Fans are hopeful that another proven arm will be added to bolster Atlanta’s bullpen.
