Brie Clark, a gymnast from Clemson University, made history on Friday by becoming the first collegiate gymnast to execute The Biles I tumbling pass in her floor routine. Named after Simone Biles, this move is rarely seen in international competitions, according to Forbes.
By landing the pass, Clark helped her team secure a victory over Texas Women’s University and the University of New Hampshire. She is the fifth woman to successfully perform the skill, following Biles, Trinity Thomas, Hillary Heron, and London Phillips. Biles praised Clark’s accomplishment on Instagram, writing “congrats” and “& closing out black history month! YES MA’AM.”
Although Clark finished eighth on Friday, she is a standout athlete on Clemson’s gymnastics team. In 2024, she made history by earning the first 10.0 score in the university’s history at Air Force. She has also scored 9.90 or higher in each of her five floor routines leading up to Friday, according to Forbes.
Clark transferred to Clemson from Utah State University, where she was named a Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association All-American on floor as a freshman. Her next competition will be the ACC Championships, starting on March 22.
