Virginia Tech’s football team is undergoing significant changes in its defensive lineup, particularly in the secondary. The Hokies have addressed departures in their defensive backfield by securing transfers such as Tae Daley from Vanderbilt and Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. from Florida.
Daley, who began his collegiate career at Vanderbilt, brings valuable experience to Virginia Tech’s defense. In his tenure at Vanderbilt, he accumulated 107 tackles, three interceptions, and demonstrated versatility by contributing both in the defensive backfield and on special teams. His leadership and playmaking abilities are expected to bolster the Hokies’ secondary.
Powell-Ryland Jr., originally recruited as a linebacker, transitioned to defensive end upon joining Virginia Tech. This strategic move has paid dividends, as he earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2024 after recording 58 tackles and 8.5 sacks. His adaptability and impact on the defensive line are anticipated to strengthen the Hokies’ pass rush.
