Right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate reached an agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday for a one-year deal, earning $1.4 million in the majors and $500,000 in the minors.
He is eligible for performance bonuses of $50,000 each if he appears in 45 and 50 major league games.
Tate was claimed off waivers by Toronto from Baltimore on September 1 and posted a 5.40 ERA over four appearances. The 30-year-old became a free agent in November after the Blue Jays declined to offer him a contract for 2025.
Chosen fourth overall by Texas in the 2015 amateur draft, Tate debuted in the majors with the Orioles in 2019. He has a 7-14 record with a 4.09 ERA across 190 big league appearances. He missed the 2023 season due to a right elbow flexor strain.
To clear a roster spot, the Blue Jays placed right-hander Angel Bastardo on the 60-day injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent on June 1.
